Award Winner
Kelsey Plum
University of Washington
Kelsey Plum won the John R. Wooden Award in 2017 as the best player in women’s college basketball while playing for the University of Washington. A 5-8 guard, Plum had one of the most dominant offensive seasons in NCAA history, averaging 31.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game during her senior year. She set the NCAA all-time scoring record with 3,527 career points, breaking the previous mark for women's college basketball. Plum’s ability to score from anywhere on the court made her nearly unstoppable. She possessed an elite three-point shot, a deadly mid-range game, and the craftiness to finish at the rim. Her leadership helped Washington become a national contender, and she led the Huskies to a Final Four appearance in 2016. Winning the Wooden Award capped an incredible college career for Plum and she was selected first overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Stars (now Las Vegas Aces).
