Chiney Ogwumike won the John R. Wooden Award in 2014 as the best player in women’s college basketball while starring for Stanford University. A 6-4 forward, Ogwumike dominated both ends of the floor, averaging 26.1 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game during her senior season. Her elite post play, rebounding, and defensive presence made her the most dominant player in the nation. Ogwumike’s leadership helped Stanford reach the Final Four in 2014, marking her second trip to the national semifinals during her college career. She became Stanford’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, surpassing her older sister, Nneka Ogwumike, who also had a decorated career at Stanford. Her ability to impact games with her scoring efficiency and defensive prowess made her a clear choice for the Wooden Award. Winning the Wooden Award capped an incredible college career, during which she earned multiple Pac-12 Player of the Year honors and set several school and conference records.
