2012 & 2013 Winner

Brittney Griner won the John R. Wooden Award in 2013 as the best player in women’s college basketball while playing for Baylor University. A 6-9 center, Griner, who won the Wooden Award in 2012, was one of the most dominant players in NCAA history, known for her shot-blocking, scoring, and athleticism. During her senior season, she averaged 23.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game, leading Baylor to another outstanding season. Griner’s ability to change games defensively set her apart from other players. She became the NCAA’s all-time leader in blocked shots (748). She had already guided Baylor to a historic 40-0 national championship season in 2012, and in 2013, she continued to dominate, earning her second consecutive National Player of the Year award. Winning the Wooden Award cemented Griner’s legacy as one of the greatest college basketball players ever. She finished her career as a three-time All-American and two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
