1998 Winner

North Carolina's Antawn Jamison walked away with a sweep of player of the year awards by earning the biggest of them all -- the 22nd annual John R. Wooden Award. "It's really a prestigious award,” Jamieson said. “The highest a college basketball player can receive." Jamison became the third North Carolina player to win the award, joining Phil Ford (1978) and Michael Jordan (1984). No other school has had three winners since the award was first presented in 1977. Jamison led the Tar Heels to a No. 1 ranking in the regular season. North Carolina (34-4) lost to Utah 65-59, in the national semifinals. Jamison averaged 22.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field. He was the first Tar Heel to average over 20 points and 10 rebounds since Billy Cunningham in 1964-65, and the first to be named ACC player of the year since Jordan in 1984
