Award Winner
Zion Williamson
Duke University
Zion Williamson became just the third freshman to win the Wooden Award, joining Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis. He also became the sixth Wooden Award winner in Duke history, the most of any school. Williamson averaged 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season, and his 26.0 points per game in the NCAA tournament were the most by a freshman to play at least three games. He was a consensus first-team All-America selection and was just the 21st player nationally since 1982 to sweep the six major National Player of the Year awards, and just the fourth Duke player – Christian Laettner (1992), Jason Williams (2002) and J.J. Redick (2006) to do so. He was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP, becoming the first freshman in ACC history to achieve both in the same season and the 11th Blue Devil. He was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team.
