Award Winner
Candace Parker
University of Tennessee
Candace Parker won the John R. Wooden Award in 2008, marking her second consecutive win after also receiving the honor in 2007. Playing for the University of Tennessee, Parker led the Lady Vols to back-to-back NCAA National Championships under legendary coach Pat Summitt. During her senior season, the 6-4 forward averaged 21.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game, proving to be the most dominant player in the nation. Parker's 2008 championship run was particularly impressive due to her resilience. She played through a dislocated shoulder suffered during the NCAA Tournament but still managed to lead Tennessee to the title, earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. Her versatility was unmatched—she could score in the post, handle the ball like a guard, and defend multiple positions. Winning her second Wooden Award cemented Parker’s status as one of the greatest college basketball players ever.
