Breanna Stewart won the John R. Wooden Award in 2016, marking her second consecutive Wooden Award win after also earning the honor in 2015. Playing for the University of Connecticut (UConn), Stewart dominated women’s college basketball, leading the Huskies to their fourth straight NCAA championship, an unprecedented feat in the sport. During her senior season, the 6-4 forward averaged 19.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 blocks per game, showcasing her all-around skill set. Stewart was known for her ability to score inside and out, her defensive presence, and her leadership. She was the heart of a UConn team that went 38-0 in 2016, completing another undefeated season under coach Geno Auriemma. Winning the Wooden Award solidified Stewart as one of the greatest college basketball players of all time. She finished her career as a three-time National Player of the Year, four-time Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament, and a four-time national champion.
