Aliyah Boston of South Carolina was the winner of the 2022 John R. Wooden Award as the most outstanding player in women’s college basketball. A 2021 Wooden Award All American and finalist, Boston became the second winner from the University of South Carolina, (A’ja Wilson, 2018). She led the country in double-doubles, 30, and set an SEC record for consecutive games with a double-double, 27. The 6-foot-5 post player helped lead the South Carolina Gamecocks to the 2022 NCAA National Championship, the first player to win the Wooden Award and the National Championship, in the same year, since 2016 (Breanna Stewart). Boston won both the SEC Player of the Year and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. The Gamecocks' leading scorer (16.8 ppg) led the nation with 30 double-doubles this season, including an SEC-record 27 straight to become just the third player in NCAA Div. I women's basketball history with a streak at least that long.
